Plastic doesn't just pollute the ocean — it kills the coral reefs that hold a quarter of marine life. A 2018 study published in Science looked at 124,000 reef-building corals across the Asia-Pacific and found that corals in contact with plastic had an 89% chance of disease, compared with just 4% for corals free of plastic.
